Woodcut

Relief printmaking is taking an impression “from the surface”. Relief is done by carving your image into the matrix, rolling ink across the surface and applying pressure bewteen the paper and the block to leave the raised image transferred onto the paper. The most common blocks used for the matirx are linoleum and wood.

Woodblocks can hold a great deal of detail and can provide unique texture depending on the amount of pressure used when printing.
